Wal-Mart to reduce packaging

In order to cut costs as well as protect the environment, the world’s leading retailer Wal-Mart has formally launched a plan to reduce excessive packaging.
According to the company’€™s President and CEO Lee Scott, Wal-Mart will co-operate with its suppliers to reduce all packaging by 5% before 2013. This would be equivalent to cutting the number of truck movements by 213 000 per year, or saving 324 000 tonnes of coal or 67 million gallons of diesel oil. Cost savings to Wal-Mart are estimated at US$ 3.4 billion.
