United Kingdom – In a deal worth £16 million (US$ 25.6 million), UK-based waste company Viridor has acquired Pearsons Group which operates two sites in Norfolk, including a materials recycling facility (MRF). Pearsons Group was founded in 1945 as a recovered paper business but now handles a range of materials at its two facilities. Total annual input volumes are around 50 000 tonnes, with the Pennon Group noting that Pearsons has recently upgraded its facilities to give a combined licensed capacity of 139 000 tonnes per year.
