Adam Weitsman, the company’s President, declares: ’Industry experts tell us that there are few, if any other plants in the world that have achieved our level of technical sophistication in the maximum recovery of metals from the waste stream and in environmental responsibility.’
The facility, which shreds vehicles, appliances and all types of scrap metal, now incorporates: a 10 000 HP Riverside Engineering 122-inch mega shredder; a polishing drum magnet; four dynamic ferrous metal separation systems; an X-ray separation system; Optic Color Sorters; and a US$ 8 million wire recovery system. Scrap production for all metal grades is expected to total some 700 000 tonnes in 2009.
’At a time when many businesses are retrenching, we are investing in the future,’ says Mr Weitsman. ’This new technology gives us a competitive advantage that is already helping to grow our business despite the economy.’
