TOMRA expands footprint through BEST

Belgium – TOMRA Systems ASA, a subsidiary of TOMRA Sorting Solutions, has acquired Belgian technology manufacturer BEST Kwadraat. The move will ‘€˜further enhance the level of expertise in various recycling applications’€™, TOMRA says in a statement.

BEST has developed a number of advanced optical sorting systems, such as the SWIR Laser, that can deal with a wide range of materials from frozen fruits and tobacco to minerals, and supplies several of the world’€™s top 10 food brands. Established in 1996 and employing 310 people, the company has sold around 3500 sorting systems from locations in Europe, Asia and the USA.

Hailing the company as ‘€˜a strong strategic fit’€™, TOMRA states it will complete the transfer of BEST’€™s patented technology and products over the next two months. Through its complementary knowledge and international footprint, the Norwegian group added that it hoped to provide ‘€˜an unrivalled technology base from which to grow further’€™.
