Tariff increases for jam-packed container ships

And in an interview with the British Lloyd’s List, a senior executive at the European office of Japanese shipping line MOL said their customers were willing to pay even more for guarantees their cargo will not be left in port when a ship becomes overbooked.
According to the FEFC, westbound traffic to Northern Europe increased by 19.6% in the first five months of this year while volumes to Southern Europe climbed even more steeply. Following freight rate increases on July 1, further adjustments have already been announced for October 1 – a time of year when shipments traditionally slow.
