Surge in UK steel packaging recycling

The figures confirm not only that steel has far exceeded its 48% recycling target for 2005, but also that UK steel packaging recycling rates have surpassed the EU target of 50% metals recycling rate by 2008. The statistics also suggest that the UK’s 2008 target of 54% steel packaging recycling is achievable.
The Defra report shows that, in the UK last year, 352 358 tonnes of steel packaging were recycled – around 34 000 tonnes more than in 2004.
