With dimensions of 70 mm x 70 mm and a length of up to 100 mm, the briquettes are produced solely by hydraulic pressure and without the use of a binding agent. The hydraulic drive of both the pre-compressor/filling cylinder and the main press cylinder is applied by a self-contained pump with a power rating of either 7.5 kW or 15 kW. A large 300-litre hydraulic tank has been incorporated into the design to maintain a low oil temperature during continuous operation.
Average throughput of the TH 70 K is approximately 200 kg per hour although this figure will vary depending on the material being processed. However, throughputs can be doubled by using the Duo version of the press, thus leading to lower operating costs and higher efficiencies. The Duo also offers users the security of a second press if one is out of action.
Although briquetting presses are most commonly found in the wood industry for compacting shavings, sawdust, grinding dust and wood chips, they are also used as a volume reduction method for paper, expanded polystyrene foam and light metals, among other materials.
