SITA UK sells five sites to EMR

United Kingdom – SITA UK has agreed the sale of five metals processing yards – at Boreham, Coventry, Lenwade, Norwich and Sheffield – to European Metal Recycling (EMR). With the acquisition, EMR becomes the largest metals recycling firm in the UK.

SITA UK’s decision to sell the sites follows a review of its metals recycling division, announced in July this year. According to media reports, SITA UK had struggled with the division ever since acquiring the metals recycling assets. Poor trading conditions also played a key role in the decision to sell.

SITA UK is a subsidiary of French resource management giant Suez. Although the company has exited the metals recycling industry, it is said to retain ambitious plans to develop new recycling and resource management operations.
