United Kingdom | The UK arm of worldwide recycling conglomerate Sims Metal Management, has acquired Birmingham, UK based metals recycler All Metal Recovery Limited. Founded in 1986, AMR was one of the fastest growing independent metals recyclers in the UK, employing over 60 people.
Sims Metal Management says the acquisition of AMR will build upon the company’s metal recycling businesses in Halesowen. This grows the business’€™ foothold within the West Midlands, whilst strengthening its national network of sites.
Tom Bird, UK Managing Director of Sims Metal Management comments: ’We are delighted with this acquisition and look forward to welcoming Stephen Dunn and his team from AMR to Sims Metal Management. We have been looking to build our presence in the strategically important central location of the West Midlands for some time but have taken a prudent approach to expansion. This has allowed us to make this acquisition at the right point in the business cycle.’€™
In addition to the two metal recycling yards in Smethwick, AMR’€™s operations include a nearby 4 acre dedicated rail link facility for transporting ferrous and non-ferrous metal to UK steelworks and ports.
Mr Bird adds: ‘€˜The AMR acquisition is consistent with our strategy to control source tonnes for our major facilities in the UK and will bring many synergies with our other Midland’€™s operations. An example is AMR’€™s rail link facility, which provides an efficient logistics path between our export operations and domestic markets.’
