United States | Gerdau-Ameristeel, one of America’s largest steel producers, has started up a new shredding facility in Jackson, Tennessee. Supplied and installed by The Shredder Company, plant includes a TSC SXS 124 shredder powered by an 8000 HP electric motor that is capable of processing 300 tonnes of steel scrap per hour.
The SXS (Smart Xtra Strong) shredder is designed to maximise production efficiency. The feeding system is computer controlled so that the speed of the double-feed rollers varies according to the available capacity of the electric motor. It also takes into consideration the thermal capacity of the motor, the amperage being consumed and the pressure on the hydraulic system.
For reasons of flexibility, the ferrous and non-ferrous systems can be run either as one continuous operation or as completely independent plants.
