Global – The global medical waste management market amounted to US$ 11.36 billion in 2014 and is expected to reach US$ 16.72 billion by 2022, according to a new report by Zion Research. This represents a compound annual growth rate of 5% over that time period.
The report covers medical and laboratory materials such as packaging, gloves, tissues, bandages and infusion kits. At present, autoclaving and incineration are the most chosen methods of treatment but segregation is hailed as ‘ideal’ for medical waste management as it prevents the contamination of non-hazardous waste by hazardous waste.
Besides reducing toxicity and waste volumes, segregation also facilitates the transportation of waste. Non-hazardous waste accounts for 85% of the world medical waste management market in terms of revenue.
