Scholz AG expands in USA and Poland

Archiv – Liberty Iron & Metal Holdings and its German parent Scholz AG have undertaken a new joint venture in the USA. The two companies have taken equity positions in Mercer Co., which runs operations at Sharon (Pennsylvania) and Girard (Ohio), as well as in Niles Iron & Metal LLC which operates two facilities at Niles, Ohio. According to a statement from Scholz, Fred Knox of Mercer Co and Gary and Michael Clayman of Niles Iron & Metal will hold equity positions within the newly-formed LNM Holdings LLC. Now operating nine yards in four states, the principals of Phoenix-based Liberty Iron & Metal Holdings believe that the new joint venture will strengthen the group’s marketing and processing capabilities. In addition to shredder capacity, the group also operates one of the largest shears in the USA as well as numerous smaller shears, balers and non-ferrous recycling operations.
Liberty and Scholz AG created another joint venture in July last year which operates five scrap metal recycling facilities in the USA.
In associated news, Scholz has announced a new joint venture in Poland with Toyota Tsusho, a Japanese logistics services specialist in the automotive industry. To be known as Green Metals Poland, the joint venture will collect and process metals and other forms of scrap.
