Transporting and handling whole scrap car tyres is both difficult and expensive. Tyres are
usually hand-stitched on trailers for transportation purposes but this process is labour intensive. Their low density means that payload is generally restricted to less than half of trailer capacity, therefore yielding high unit freight costs. Once at their destination, the discharge of tyres is messy and also labour intensive while tyre piles are unhygienic and space inefficient.
The BALA Round Baling System is said to offer a solution to these problems. Tyres are compressed and sealed in a plastic film to create compact bales that are strong, easy to handle and make better use of trailer payload capacity. The bales can be stored neatly outdoors without the risk of water ingress and are also easy to open.
According to BALA Press, advantages for collectors include: volume reduction; optimised logistics; no hand power required to load and unload trailers; optimised transport loads; flexible transport by road, rail or ship; and easy handling and storage.
The system has a capacity of more than 12 bales per hour. Bale dimensions are approximately 1200 mm x 1200 mm while bale weight is around 800 kg.
