According to the manufacturer, it provides rapid and reliable screening to comply with the EU Directive on Restriction on the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS). This hand-held, non-destructive tool is specifically designed to measure heavy metals in plastics, solder materials and printed circuit boards, says Oxford Instruments.
The RoHS regulations will severely restrict the presence in electrical and electronic equipment of elements such as lead and mercury, as well as hexavalent chromium and bromines (including polybrominated biphenyls and polybrominated diphenyl ethers). To ensure RoHS compliance, recyclers affected by the regulation will need to perform verification testing on all components. The X-MET3000TXR can measure for the above elements across a range of products – including cables, solder material and fasteners – while also providing quick on-site analysis for silver, copper, bismuth, titanium, calcium and zinc in solder or plastic.
