Recycling connects with refugees

Australia – Green Connect Illawarra – an Australian recycling programme with a strong social component – is collecting recyclables generated at festivals and other events.

An initiative of the Strategic Community Assistance to Refugee Families (SCARF), a spokesperson claims that some 94% of the collected material would otherwise end up in landfill.

Green Connect Illawarra is intended to educate refugees in English and give them a chance to participate in paid work experience in Australia.
