Archiv – The World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, has selected Chilean e-scrap recycler Recycla and the US rewards programme RecycleBank as pioneering technologies in the energy and environment section.
Among 32 other companies, both are recognized for their accomplishments as innovators of the highest calibre. They are companies with ’life-changing technologies that will have a deep impact on business and society,’ according to the Swiss non-profit foundation. Recycla is the first Latin American company appearing on the Forum’s list of technology companies and is selected for its innovative contribution to the sustainable management of electronic waste.
The company believes it slogan, ’If you do not pay for recycling today, our children will pay the Morning,’ enabled it to sign recycling contracts with major brands like HP, Epson, Canon and IBM. The US recycling programme RecycleBank also earned its position as technology pioneer. Households earn rewards for their recycling efforts, which they can use towards purchases at stores participating in the programme. Currently, RecycleBank is servicing communities in 15 US states. RecycleBank households have diverted over 60,000 tons of recyclables to date. The company is also looking to expand its programme overseas to the United Kingdom
The Technology Pioneers 2009 were nominated by technology experts from around the world, including venture capitalists, technology companies, academia and media. They are invited to participate in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2009 in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, from January 28 to February 1, and the Annual Meeting of the New Champions to be held in Dalian, China, in September 2009.
Companies previously counted by the WEF as Technology Pioneers are Google, Wikipedia, Mozilla Corporation, Napster Business Objects, Cambridge Silicon Radio and Encore Software.
