United States – US company Momentum Recycling has started operations at its new glass recycling plant in Salt Lake City, Utah. The facility has a monthly production capacity of more than 3000 tons of glass while providing indoor storage for some 1500 tons. The ‘state-of-the-art’ plant was designed by glass recycling pioneers Glass Processing Solutions and Andela Products, and uses their patented CleanGlass Technology, according to Momentum Recycling. The plant produces ‘premium CleanGlass’ which is used as an environmentally-friendly alternative to common industrial raw materials such as sand, slag, fly ash and cement, it adds.
‘While Utah has made tremendous strides in recycling in recent years, we have lagged behind the rest of the nation in glass recycling rates,’ remarks Momentum Recycling’s ceo John Lair. He estimates that Utah boasts a glass recycling rate of just 4% – which is significantly below the national average of 28%. Lair insists that, following the grand opening of the Salt Lake City plant, recycling glass ‘is getting a lot easier’.
