Originally the company was built by another group but never commissioned. Almost 300 jobs are set to be created with UAE Star Group’s US$ 92.8 million (Euro 65.5 million) investment in Bahrain, ETA Star Group says.
’We hope to commission the cement plant by the end of the year. It will create 200 jobs, 50 of them for Bahrainis,’ says Star Group metal division Director Abulhasan. It will also launch an aluminium recycling plant at a cost of US$12 (Euro 8.5) million, he reveals. “The plant will create 60 jobs, 15 of them for Bahrainis.
’Our procurement centres in Saudi Arabia will send aluminium scrap to the plant in Bahrain, which will produce ingots for export to India and China.’ Mr Abulhasan, who is also Star Cement Chief Executive, made the announcement during a visit by Indian Ambassador Balkrishna Shetty to ETA Star Cement’s plant and labour accommodation in Hidd. ’We currently employ 66 workers, of whom 46 are Indians, that is why we invited the Indian Ambassador to inspect our plant and labour accommodation to see for himself how we treat our workers.’ Mr Abdulhasan states.
