The research was performed by the independent Dutch research institution TNO.
Negligible quantities of lead sheet go to landfill, it was found, with up to 97.5% recycled for new, long-term applications. The recent study results dispel long-held but unfounded prejudices about lead sheet, which is clearly the best environmental solution, argues ELSIA Chairman Ben Travers.
Although many materials are considered to have green credentials, the real environmental performance of a product depends on its recovery rate and on the efficiency of collection systems, it is contended.
