Jump in US alu-can recycling

’The scrap recycling industry is pleased with the year-over-year growth,’ says ISRI’€™s President Robin Wiener. ‘€˜The value of the all-aluminium can as a recyclable commodity can only increase.’€™ CMI President Robert Budway adds: ‘€˜Recycling 40 aluminium beverage cans has the energy-saving equivalent of one gallon of gasoline.’€™
Each beverage can weighs some 0.468 ounces or 13.3 grammes, such that 34.17 cans are required to give a pound of aluminum. The can is the only beverage container that more than covers the cost of collection and reprocessing for itself, it is claimed.
