Swedish textiles firm Syre has secured EUR 92 million in funding to boost textiles recycling in the US.

The latest investment round will enable the construction of two ‘giga-scale’ textile-to-textile recycling plants in the US. This state-of-the-art facility will feature Syre’s innovative recycling process that will enable the commercial production of ‘circular polyester’.

Syre already operates an R&D hub in North Carolina. It plans to build advanced recycling facilities in Vietnam and Spain in the near future. Both countries are strategically positioned within the textile supply chain, with access to know-how, feedstock, and logistics and renewable energy.

Right now, the company is selecting the best US locations. Construction on the first two plants is expected to start early 2025.

Syre’s technology was developed by US tech firm  Premirr. ‘Now it is fully integrated and we have the founders on board, we can continue to scale the team and company,’ says Syre ceo Dennis Nobelius.

The company, which is based in Stockholm, was launched in March this year by H&M Group, Vargas and Volvo Cars to drive sustainable change in the textile industry.
