Since 2008, the Essen-based firm has been importing drilling mud from oil and gas production ventures in order to recover the mercury contained within them. After multi-stage test runs under the supervision of TÜV Nord Düsseldorf, the company has received government approval to process so-called NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) sludge.
