Fixturlaser, the Swedish producer of alignment instruments, has developed the Fixturlaser XA unit for shaft alignment.
An entirely new product utilising latest hardware and software technology, the Fixturlaser XA consists of a hand-held computer unit and two sensor heads, explains the company. The sensors use a laser formed into a line in order to facilitate set-up and rough alignment.
The receiver units are made of CCD elements – a digital technology replacing commonly used PSDs. CCD technology has become well established within the camera and instrument manufacturing sector over many years and offers a wide range of advantages, including unrivalled linearity and high quality. Fixturlaser claims to be the first company within the field of alignment systems to utilise this technology.
The new sensors are smaller and lighter than with the previous generation, while also offering a larger detector area. A large amount of effort has been invested into making them more or less insensitive to ambient light. The hand-held computer has a 6.4-inch colour touch-screen for operating the measuring and alignment phase. The unit shows the operator what to do – and in what order – by use of animated graphics. A wireless version of the Fixturlaser XA is also available.
