Fire at French battery recycler

French battery recycler Snam suffered a large fire on Sunday, 18 February. An estimated 900 tonnes of lithium-ion batteries, mainly from e-cars, were involved in the incident.

A team of 70 firefighters was called to the warehouse in Viviez, north of Toulouse in southern France. They tackled the flames overnight, according to Reuters.

Local media reported thick plumes of smoke could be seen from a great distance. The authorities assured people in the area there were no immediate risks.

Snam has not yet commented on the fire.
