Archiv – After lengthy discussions, the EU has agreed maximum pollution leaching limits for three different categories of landfilled waste, namely hazardous, non-hazardous and inert.After lengthy discussions, the EU has agreed maximum pollution leaching limits for three different categories of landfilled waste, namely hazardous, non-hazardous and inert. However, member states will still be able to set limits for individual landfill sites based on a case-by-case risk assessment demonstrating that any such move would cause no additional environmental impact.
Some EU countries had opposed the setting of uniform limits on the basis that this might complicate the landfill approval process.
