Early Christmas present for Lapland recycler

Finland – Christmas has come early this year for Finnish recycler Lapin Metals following the delivery of Italy-based C&G’s latest-design CH973 compact shear baler. Fittingly, it snowed at the ‘grand opening’ for the shear, transforming the yard into a true winter wonderland.

Lapin Metals is located at Rovaniemi, which is north of the Arctic Circle in Lapland – famously the official home of Santa Claus.

The CH973 features a 200 kW electric motor, 900 tonnes of shear force, a 7.2-metre-long squeeze box and three ‘powerful’ hydraulic cylinders per wing, each providing ‘an impressive’ 400 tonnes of compacting force. The shear baler represents Lapin Metals’ third machine from the same stable.

‘C&G knows how to build robust, high-performance shears and balers, which are built to last,’ explains Jussa Pyhäjärvi. ‘This latest shear has great features, such as remote servicing, which is pretty important for us as we are located in such a remote area.’
