Bulgaria | Bulgarian metals, paper and plastics collection and recycling company Nadin EAD has cut the ribbon on the country’s maiden e-waste treatment plant. The opening ceremony for the facility – which is now in full operation – was attended by Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Boyko Borisov and by Yordanka Fandakova, the Mayor of the country’s capital city Sofia.
The new facility, which will recycle unused brown and white goods as well as computer hardware, toys and medical equipment, is located at Novi Iskar near Sofia. It has enough capacity not only to process all of Bulgaria’s e-waste but also to take material from neighbouring countries.
The facility was designed and developed by German company Adelmann GmbH and will create 150 new jobs. The plant will be capable of completing the recycling process for all electronic equipment in a single building. Bulgaria-based plant owner Nadin Jsc has invested more than US$ 25 million in the facility and has arranged a contract with the municipality of Sofia to process all household appliances.
Also in Bulgaria, a battery recycling facility has entered the construction phase in Plovdiv – a city which is destined to become the country’s battery recycling hub.
