Denmark and Germany rank #1 in green index

Global – New results of the Global Green Economy Index (GGEI) state that experts in green economy enterprises hail Germany as the top national green performer. The sustainability-focused survey also sought to rate cities according to their green reputation; placing Copenhagen at the top.

The Danish capital was the front-runner amongst the 27 nations tracked in the GGEI. It was followed by Stockholm, Oslo, Amsterdam and New York. Four main factors were highlighted to produce this top five; leadership, policy, clean-tech investment and sustainable tourism.

Additional discoveries included in the GGEI are: leadership in South Africa got a big boost after hosting last year’€™s Durban Climate Change Conference – though its green reputation did not improve commensurately; industrial specialists continue to view Germany, China, the United States and India as the best targets for clean-tech investment; The United Kingdom is tied with New Zealand at the top of the sustainable tourism performance index.

According to Washington-based consultancy firm Dual Citizen, responsible for publishing the annual report, the analysis will help global players ‘€˜improve their international green branding’€™ as well as offer guidance on coordinating national and local efforts promoting green economic growth.
