The ministry says that Washington was adding unnecessary pressure to the countries’ already tense trade relationship and was sending the wrong signal to US industry. It is the seventh time this year that the United States has investigated imports from China on anti-dumping and countervailing grounds.
The Chinese ministry omitted from its statement a phrase that it regularly used in the past that the investigations ran counter to World Trade Organisation rules. China is pursuing a WTO case against the United States over its simultaneous use of anti-dumping and countervailing duties on imports of Chinese coated paper.
