Spain’s Guardia Civil has dismantled a criminal gang posing as a cardboard recycling company in a major drugs bust near Madrid.
Officers seized 136 kilos of cocaine, as well as hashish and marijuana, during the operation. Authorities also confiscated EUR 231 530 in cash, five handguns, industrial drug-handling equipment and multiple burner phones.

The gang operated from a warehouse in an industrial estate in Madrid. It had been rented under the false pretext of processing and recycling cardboard. However, the site was used to receive drug shipments hidden in packaging materials.
According to the police, the operation primarily supplied small-scale dealers in Ciudad Real. The group reportedly aimed to expand its reach and join forces with major cocaine distributors.
Months-long investigation
The investigation began in August last year, following a tip-off about suspicious activity in Valdepeñas and Madrid. Over several months, officers monitored 31 individuals across various locations.
All suspects were arrested during the raid and now face charges for trafficking drugs across multiple Spanish provinces.
