Axion team smashes charity target in memory of colleague

United Kingdom – Staff from UK-based recycler Axion took part in the annual Great Manchester Run – the largest event of its type in Europe – and raised almost Euro 4000 for charity in memory of their late colleague Simon Wilkinson who died of cancer last year. Twenty-five employees from Axion’s three sites at Bramhall, Salford and Trafford Park participated in the run.

‘All of the team members from Axion felt very privileged to take part,’ comments Sam Haig, the company’s head of engineering & research, who worked with Simon, a principal engineer at Axion.

According to Haig, the tragic events of the previous Monday in Manchester made it a ‘very emotional’ day, ‘but there was a hugely positive attitude throughout the city and along the course, with thousands turning out to support the runners’.

The money raised will be donated to the hospital in which Simon Wilkinson was treated.
