Germany-based Spectro Analytical Instruments, a leading provider of optical emission and XRF spectrometers, has been acquired by US company Ametek, a global manufacturer of electronic instruments and electric motors. Spectro, which has annual sales of approximately ‘‚¬ 85 million (US$ 104 million), was bought from an investor group led by German Equity Partners for approximately ‘‚¬ 80 million (US$ 98 million).
Spectro has delivered more than 22 000 instruments to customers throughout the world and specialises in advanced products backed by a strong support infrastructure. A market leader in metal analysers using arc/spark optical emission spectrometry, Spectro’s inductively coupled plasma (ICP) optical emission spectrometers permit the analysis of liquids, thereby opening up new measurement opportunities for Ametek, particularly in the field of environmental testing. In addition, Spectro’€™s ED-XRF-based products complement those manufactured by Ametek’€™s EDAX business, enabling it to supply a broader range of products to this attractive market.
