RPC bpi Recycled Products has acquired rigid plastics recycler PLASgran Ltd. The move is said to have created the UK’s largest plastics recycling group and will help ‘spearhead’ national efforts meet a surge in demand for recycled plastic packaging.
The European film recycling specialist says taking over PLASgran will increase its recycling capacity to more than 120 000 tonnes per year. The recycler previously processed 70 000 tonnes of used plastic annually.
Stronger together
‘Our combined businesses have state-of-the-art recycling equipment, while both teams have an understanding of the issues facing users of plastic packaging who want to see it recycled and remanufactured into new products,’ says PLASgran managing director Mark Roberts.
By joining forces, RPC bpi has now ‘clearly become the largest plastics recycler in the UK and one of the largest in Europe’, according to the firm’s managing director Gerry McGarry. He calls it ‘great news’ for both business, customers and the wider society.
‘We are now in a unique new position to help the UK step up its efforts to meet ever more pressing sustainability goals and to help the environment,’ McGarry adds.
