Reconomy Recycling Solutions will be merged into to Viridor, part of Pennon Group.
The sale was for a cash consideration of £23.8m. Reconomy said it would allow it to focus on its core business of providing outsourced waste management and recycling solutions to customers from the house building, construction, utilities, facilities management and retail sectors.
It will see Viridor take on RRS’s sites in Northamptonshire as well as a transport base at Brandon in Suffolk and a recycling centre at Soham in Cambridgeshire.
Viridor, a recycling, waste management and renewable energy firm, has sites across the UK including in East Anglia at Lowestoft, Beccles, Diss, Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds and Southwold.
RRS is headquartered in Northamptonshire and consists of a range of recycling and waste management operations, including three material recycling facilities, a fleet of more than 50 collection vehicles, paper, card and plastics processing, confidential destruction, and a waste transfer station.
It employs over 150 people and handles approximately 250,000 tonnes of material per annum, of which more than 150,000 is recycled.
Mike Hellings, managing director of Viridor said: ’The UK’s waste strategies demand ever-increasing levels of recycling. Reconomy has an excellent track record over recent years in providing essential recycling services to businesses in their operating region. Their innovative and professional approach will fit very well with our Viridor culture and we look forward to welcoming and working with our new colleagues.’
