Environmental technology, energy efficiency and recycling are industries that will remain a focus of industrial development in Saxony.’
And he added: ’Starter batteries containing lead in cars are still unbeatable and extremely environmentally friendly because they will be recycled at almost 100%.’
Against this backdrop, MRU’s Environmental Manager Stefan Büch criticised Annex II of the EU’s End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directive. ’Why is the EU government in Brussels so ambitious to impose a ban on the lead-acid battery?’ he asked. ’It’s a mystery for me. The potential risks of eliminating this kind of industry cannot and should not be the direction of an EU policy.’ He asked the German government for appropriate support in this debate.
