Named ’France Plastiques Recyclage’ (FPR), the startup is the first reprocessing plant of the joint venture. The new company is housed on a 40.000 sq metre area and required an investment of Euro 40 million.
The capacity of FPR is expected to reach 40.000 tonnes of used PET bottles per year – this is expected to yield about 30.000 tonnes per year rPET. The machinery, delivered by German specialist Starlinger is authorised for bottle-to-bottle and food contact plastic recycling.
The first contact has been signed with Danone, owner of the Evian water brand; the new client is expected to consume about 35% of the company’s output. Danone currently uses 25% rPET on average in the plastic water bottles it exports all over the world, but Danone hopes to raise this to 50% by the end of 2010.
