Furthermore, DJJ has completed the acquisition of most of the assets of Texas-based Victoria Recycling.
Based in Missouri, ACS was founded over 50 years ago. In addition to its Kansas City headquarters, it operates facilities in St Joseph and Sedalia, also in Missouri. The company, which will become part of DJJ’s Advantage Metals Recycling group, employs 112 people and processes nearly 180 000 tonnes per annum.
Victoria Recycling has been affiliated with Texas Port Recycling, another DJJ regional company, since early June. Founded in 2007, it has 13 employees and processes over 24 000 tonnes per annum.
’The addition of the American Compressed Steel and Victoria Recycling facilities demonstrates one more step toward helping Nucor achieve our long-term goal of expanding scrap sourcing, using DJJ as a platform for that growth,’ says Daniel DiMicco, Nucor’s Chairman, CEO and President. Nucor is the largest buyer of ferrous scrap in North America, with total purchases amounting to 22.8 million tonnes in 2007. Through DJJ, Nucor also: brokers ferrous and non-ferrous metals, pig iron and HBI/DRI; supplies ferro-alloys; and processes ferrous and non-ferrous scrap.
