The German company, with headquarters in Hilchenbach, in cooperation with Belgian Scrap Terminal NV (BST), has launched a treatment plant for Shredder Residue (ASR) in Antwerp where up to 20,000 tonnes par annum provided by the two BST NV shredder plants are treated in a 3- shift operation by applying the VW-SiCon process.
The sale of the generated fractions is ensured: SiCon GmbH supplies shredder granulate with low chlorine contents to the blast furnace of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. Organic products generated in the treatment plant are used as a dehydrating aid at Emschergenossenschaft in Bottrop and as a fuel substitute.
Metals are directly sold to secondary metallurgical plants. The VW-SiCon process which is applied in the Antwerp treatment plant is already in use in Austria and also in a plant of the French scrap recycling company CFF Recycling. In the Netherlands, it will be implemented in 2009 by Autorecycling Nederland BV (ARN) at their Tiel site. The process is increasingly recognised as an industrial standard.
Belgian Scrap Terminal NV is one of the leading European steel scrap companies. At 3 sites in Belgium, more than 1 million tonnes are recycled per year and sold to steel mills in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Presently BST is investing in further scrap treatment plants at 3 sites in Wallonia and Northern France, in order to strengthen and extend its market position.
With a team of 12, SiCon has become a strong partner for many customers worldwide. Not only renowned car manufacturers, shredder operators and metal recycling firms but also paper manufacturers and other companies in the recycling industry are among the customers of SiCon GmbH.
