A sale would be a possibility,’ says Alba spokesman Axel Bahr to German newspaper ’Die Welt’. A decision will be made in the first quarter this year. There is no pressure and it depends on the purchasing price, when the division will be sold..
According to the company, Alba likes to concentrate its activities to its core business, a sale will happen because of a strategic reason. The Berlin company, which is the third largest waste disposal company in Germany after competitors Remondis and Sulo, is focusing strongly on the areas of household waste disposal and recycling management.
Despite the scrap recycling industries shows excellent growing rates in Germany, for the Alba group it is not of a strategic size. In the past year, Alba AG had a sales result which crossed for the first time the billion euro border. In the area of scrap recycling revenues the turnover is in between the 100 to 200 million Euros.
The division Alba Metals is headquartered in Berlin and employs about 500 people. The two Polish scrap recycling subsidiaries of Alba in Grodkow and Gorzow Wielkopolski, were sold last December to their competitor Scholz AG.
