A record number of outstanding entries by participating artists made this year’s event a challenge for the judges and a delight for visitors. Six weeks earlier contesting artists came together to gather the scrap they needed at the local facility of American Iron, a recycling company.
All entered sculptures were displayed to the public at the American Iron Minneapolis Aquatennial open-air gallery. Artwork was judged on originality, artistic merit, and creative reuse of recyclable materials. Back this year was the popular “People’s Choice” award as determined by public voting.
Sculptures are made entirely from recycled scrap metal collected by American Iron, which sponsors the annual event to encourage local artists and to promote recycling awareness.
