At a symbolic event held in Brussels on January 13, three consortia were launched by producers, users and importers of nickel in response to the EU’s new Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) policy.
The overall purpose of the consortia is to provide a means for nickel manufacturers and importers to comply with complex REACH requirements – for example, through data sharing and joint submission of registration dossiers. The consortia programme will bring together all of the key players in the extensive nickel supply chain and provides them with an opportunity to work together in a cost-effective manner to comply with the REACH regulations, according to the Nickel Institute.
REACH is designed to ensure a high level of protection for human health and the environment.
