Also fully operational is the scrap yard feeding the mill, which is run by MultiServ – the single largest provider of outsourced on-site mill services.
To load the huge 150 m³ scrap baskets, MultiServ is using proven E-Crane technology. Currently, two E-Cranes with an outreach of more than 38 metres and a lift capacity of 10 tonnes are loading the scrap baskets using 4-5 m³ scrap grapples and state-of-the-art, computer-linked communication systems. At the same time, the cranes are also unloading scrap arriving by barge and/or rail wagon. This calls for round-the-clock operation of the yard to satisfy the melt shop’s scrap requirements.
By using the E-Cranes, MultiServ and Carinox have reduced manpower, maintenance and overall scrap handling costs compared to more traditional, less dedicated scrap handling systems. E-Crane is said to offer a complete and comprehensive range of heavy-duty scrap handling solutions for scrap projects inside steel mills worldwide.
