To fulfil the requirements of the contract, Skrotjohan is investing more than ‘‚¬ 6 million in a 3500 HP steel shredder and in a cutting line for the production of cooling scrap.
The Tornio facility is the world’s largest stainless steel processing plant and incorporates latest technology. Scrap metal dealers throughout Finland, Russia and the rest of Europe are expected to feel the impact of increasing demand from AvestaPolarit.
Björn Johansson, CEO of Skrotjohan Oy, comments: ’We are happy to have signed this agreement. The quality of our processed cooling scrap is backed by 10 years of experience in the field of steel processing. We already produce cooling scrap in our Borlänge facility, through the SSAB steelworks, but the output from our new Tornio facility will be considerably higher – we estimate we can process about 120 000 tonnes of stainless steel scrap per annum of which 35 000 tonnes will go through the cutting line.’€™
