United States – An e-waste recycling facility is to be constructed in the US Midwest by Garb Oil & Power Corp., an American company which has already established plants in Germany and elsewhere in Europe to handle electronic devices such as cell phones, lap-tops, office equipment and other appliances.
Garb is based at Salt Lake City in Utah and works with ACG Consulting on financing plants. The project could create 100 jobs and provide a site for handling all forms of electronic waste, including appliances. Garb is a publicly-traded company and was founded in 1972 by John Brewer, who is credited with inventing, patenting and producing the first shredder in the world specifically designed for tyres.
The company has developed other patents and technology over the years, selling over 135 machines while building and developing 15 plants.
