United States – Call2Recycle, the North American leader in consumer battery recycling, has announced a 13.1% increase in battery collections for 2011, with more than 3.45 million kg of rechargeable batteries collected in total.
However, there were significant regional differences in performance: in Illinois, Pennsylvania and Texas, for example, strong growth in rechargeable battery collections was experienced in 2011, whereas Georgia, Mississippi and Colorado collected fewer batteries last year than in 2010.
Canada increased its collections of rechargeable and primary batteries by 17% and 157%, respectively. British Columbia’s all-battery programme achieved an increase of 150% over 2010 while the hike in Manitoba was an even greater 211%, according to Call2Recycle.
The Call2Recycle network consists of over 30 000 retail, business and municipal locations throughout the USA and Canada.
