Scotland – Following an investment of Euro 7.2 million to develop a glass recycling facility at its site in Scotland, UK company Viridor claims to have built one of the most hi-tech operations in the world.
The Midlothian-based plant is one of only three of the latest specification technology solutions available across the globe, according to Viridor. The company adds that similar facilities are being conceived in France and Australia.
The site already hosts a glass recycling facility with an annual capacity of 100 000 tonnes. The new investment will offer the opportunity to sort mixed glass by colour, bringing it back to its original streams for a high-quality recyclate.
Viridor’s Scottish Regional Director Colin Paterson remarks: ‘This will not only bring world-leading infrastructure to Scotland, but will place us at the forefront of European glass recycling.’
