Luxus breaks ground on thermoplastic polymers lab

United Kingdom – UK-based technical plastics recycling and compounding company Luxus has started building a new 750-square-metre laboratory which will specialise in developing high-performance thermoplastic polymers with a substantial recycled content.

Luxus is investing a total of £600 000 (US$ 950 000) in the laboratory – a venture supported by a £6 million (US$ 9.5 million) loan which it earned as a regional winner of the HSBC ‘€˜Business Thinking’€™ award in 2011. The new facility will focus on creating applications for its automotive customers such as Nissan, Ford, Jaguar, BMW and Renault.

According to Luxus’€™ Managing Director Peter Atterby, the company’€™s R&D team will move to the new facility where it will conduct thermoplastic polymer testing and development.

‘€˜We will also continue our research in sustainable materials that are able to withstand extremes in temperature and UV exposure with The Green Tile Company, a manufacturer of highly-innovative roof tiles known as Envirotile made from recycled polymers for the construction industry,’€™ he adds.
