United Kingdom – UK Environment Minister John Taylor, Lord Taylor of Holbeach, is leaving his post at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) following Prime Minister David Cameron’s cabinet reshuffle.
Lord Taylor had been assigned his role, including the waste and the recycling portfolio, only in September 2011 and had become well regarded in the industry during his one-year tenure. He has moved to a ministerial role in the Home Office, and said he would miss being involved in a ‘lively and vibrant’ sector of industry.
Replacing Lord Taylor’s position, as parliamentary under secretary of state at Defra is Rupert Ponsonby, Lord de Mauley. He joins two other new names at the department, David Heath and Richard Benyon. It is not yet clear who is to inherit the waste and recycling brief, but Defra said this would be confirmed in the next few days.
