ELV recycling: Toyota puts consumers in driving seat

UK – Car giant Toyota is offering consumers an end-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling service. The on-line Rewarding Recycling platform enables car users to organise the recycling of their own vehicle.

Rewarding Recycling provides responsible and efficient disposal with a ‘€˜fair price’€™ paid to the consumers, states Toyota. The recycling job is performed by the car manufacturer’€™s partner, Autogreen, with which it has been collaborating since 2005. The service is completely free of charge, Toyota points out.

Under the Rewarding Recycling scheme, consumers visit Toyota’€™s website and input their vehicle registration number and postcode. This will automatically generate a personal valuation for their car. Subsequently, they can select a preferred Toyota centre for dropping off their vehicle and receive a PIN code. On entering this number on-line, payment of the vehicle’€™s valuation will be made into a bank account while the user is also issued with a Certificate of Destruction.

‘€˜We’€™ve introduced Rewarding Recycling not only to make the job of disposing of their car simpler for customers, but also to ensure the process is done in an environmentally responsible way,’€™ notes Thomas Rosselle, Toyota’€™s Manager CSR and Environmental Affairs. Under the new scheme, consumers will also be allowed to hand in vehicles from other manufacturers.
