United States – As part of a bid to extend its reach to other regions of the state, Pacific Steel and Recycling has begun a multi-million dollar upgrade of its Pocatello site in Idaho.
This investment centres around the installation of a 200-foot-long, 350 000-pound Metso Stationary Shear to boost scrap processing capacity – a welcome addition, says the buyer, to its excavator-mounted shears that burn ‘an incredible amount’ of diesel fuel.
‘This development is going to make us more fuel efficient, more electric efficient and, overall, a much more efficient way of handling our scrap material,’ KPVI News has been told by Pacific Manager Mike Kempel.
The guillotine shear was chosen for its ability to cut iron to any desired length and to handle cars. Having ordered four in total, one of the shears will go to Pacific’s location in Montana while the two others are now supporting operations in Washington and at an additional location in Idaho.
